Hi! It’s been a crazy month for us (our sister got married!), but still found some time to enjoy games with friends and family!

Here are all the videos posted to the Rolls in the Family YouTube channel in the past month:

🎲 Board Game Recommendation Updates

We have soft-launched the new version of our website!

Still cleaning some things up, but you can feel free to poke around. Some new features include:

Still a work in progress, but our goal is for our website to be a living recommendation guide that supplements the channel and makes some of our content more evergreen, so hopefully this is one step in the right direction!

🎯 What’s Hitting Our Tables

Here is a sampling of games that we have played in the past month:

[Ryan] I have known about Coconuts for many years now, but it has often been out of print and I never had a chance to try it. However, I was able to snag a copy for my youngest sons 4th birthday, and wow has this one been a hit! Such a simple premise of launching coconuts and trying to land them in cups, but the combination of high-quality components and interaction as you try to steal cups just really makes for an excellent dexterity game. This is one of those games that you pull out because of the kids, but then the adults end up playing it for the rest of the evening… 😅

[Daniel] It had been forever since I'd played Hive, but a bachelor party trip to the mountains changed that. Ryan and I had no table, not even a flat rock, so we sat down on the ground and played right there in the dirt. That's the beauty of Hive: no board, no setup, just a handful of tiles and a surprisingly deep puzzle. Each bug moves in its own way, and you use those powers to surround your opponent's queen bee before they surround yours. I'll always remember that game!

[Ryan] It is certainly a sign of a good game if you can play it for five and half hours and feel like it flew by and that you were enjoying it the entire time. And that is exactly what we got out of a recent Slay the Spire session. This game has ascended my all-time rankings (see our recent #10-1 video if you missed it), and I anticipate it will remain right there near the top for a long time. It is just pure cooperative engine-building fun, and the variety from game to game brings me so much joy and desire to keep coming back again and again. Excited for the Downfall expansion content coming next year!

[Daniel] September was my birthday month, and along with a few expansions and smaller games, I got Harmonies. It had been at the top of my wishlist ever since I played it several times with Ryan. A late-night game with my wife reminded me how fun it is. It's one of the most satisfying puzzles out there: you're always balancing how you place your terrain against setting up your animals to score. This one is quickly becoming an all-time favorite!

[Ryan] Every now and then I’ll make an impulse purchase on a new game seems like it could fit a nice niche, and Jolt: The Magnet Game of Push and Pull is the latest on that front. It is a simple concept flicking magnets, but it actually comes together into a really fun quick dexterity game! The simple twists that only lone magnets score and you can choose the polarity when flicking make it feel distinct from other flicking games, and it is fun to knock other pieces off without them even touching, due to same-polarity magnetism. Really nice product design at reasonable price, I’m happy to have added this to the dexterity portion of my collection!

Happy Gaming! 👋🏻
