🎲 Board Game Recommendation Updates

Here are all the updates made to our living guide of board game recommendations in the past month:

  • Added Tumblin’ Dice to Low Complexity picks for 3-6 players

    • I’ve owned Tumblin’ Dice for less than 2 months, and I have already played it 100 times. We are big fans of dexterity games in general, but there actually aren’t many that work well with bigger groups while still remaining simple and casual. Well, I’m not sure a game can fill that niche any better than Tumblin’ Dice has. It couldn’t be simpler as you take turns flicking dice down stair steps and then score all the dice at the end of the round by multiplying their value by the level they landed on. Yet there is such a fun group dynamic with exciting moments and laughter. It is going to see a ton of play in our family, and I think most people could have a lot of fun with this one.

🎯 What’s Hitting Our Tables

Here is a sampling of games that we have played in the past month:

[Ryan] My son has been really interested in The Wizard of Oz after we read the classic book together (and movie), and so I couldn’t resist picking up The Wizard of Oz Adventure Book game that lets you cooperatively play through the entire story. It has been very fun to see his imagination light up as the components and light strategic gameplay brought the story life. I can see some finding this adventure book line a little too simple for their tastes, but with a kid that has an interest in the subject matter, it really knocks it out of the park.

[Daniel] Sometimes, you forget how good a game is when you haven’t played it in a long time. This was the case with Summoner Wars this last month. Ryan and I grew up playing a lot of Summoner Wars together, but my plays of it have slowed drastically since moving away. I was able to snag a copy of the Second Edition, and this last month, I was reminded just how good it is. They made many great gameplay and visual improvements, and I really believe that despite being older, this is still one of the best tactical two-player games you will find.

[Ryan] Was able to play the second game of my three-game Blighted Reach campaign in Arcs, and man is it just a unique and crazy game. Base game Arcs is already a pretty distinct experience, but the campaign just throws wild evolving asymmetry that offers something entirely different. This particular game was pretty lopsided, but still fascinating and it looks like we are set up for a pretty crazy finale.

[Daniel] Whelp, I am sucked in. After a very large acquisition of Arkham Horror: The Card Game content at a steal of a price, I now have more content than I know what to do with. Fortunately, I have several friends who enjoy this game, and I currently have two campaigns going. I was able to start this new campaign with Skids O’Toole, and it has been a blast! If you are able to generate lots of resources, Skids will let you take extra actions for days. This is one I anticipate playing a lot the rest of this year!

[Ryan] Pushing the boundaries of what you might consider a “tabletop game,” I added a truly unique game to my collection in Fingagolf. It is literally golf shrunk down to a size you can play on tables in your home, and it is remarkable how well it works. The material used for the balls and green playmats manages to simulate the dynamics of golf really well and it is great fun to take turns designing holes as you play through a 9-hole course. Has the ability to have amazing shots and moments, trademarks of the very best dexterity games, and I am super happy that something like this exists.

Happy Gaming! 👋🏻
